Introducing Stromatolite Stone

Stromatolite stone was first discovered in Madagascar about two decades ago by our regional partner, Denis Mboho, during his explorations. He brought back this captivating fossil, showcasing its solid structure, beautiful primordial green hue, and striking black ring patterns. Upon examination, it was confirmed as Stromatolite fossil stone.

The Malagasy specimens are approximately 60 to 80 million years old, dating back to the time when Africa was separating, while the oldest known Stromatolites, found in South Africa, are around 2.3 billion years old. Stromatolites represent ancient bacterial formations and are among Earth's earliest life forms.

While there have been comparisons to Ocean Jasper, these stones are distinctly different. Ocean Jasper has volcanic origins and is a chalcedony coral formation, whereas Stromatolite features typical cyanobacteria dome structures within a green matrix of pyroxene, aegirine, and arfvedsonite. Its lithified nature provides substantial weight and a brilliant polish, ensuring a high-shine finish.
