Ein dendritischer Stein weist deutliche Einschlüsse von Manganoxid auf, das in einem vielfach verzweigten, baumartigen Muster kristallisiert ist. Dieses Muster wird oft als Pflanzenfossil fehlinterpretiert. Dendriten bilden sich, wenn mangan- und eisenreiches Wasser entlang winziger Risse zwischen Schichten und Rissen im Quarz fließt.
