PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Rubellite from Karibib, Namibia, are non-gemmy crystals with a rich pink colour in a white Quartz matrix associated to purple Vermiculite and Schist. Gemmy Tourmaline specimens are often wildly expensive and out of reach for most collectors. A percentage of specimens also have a blue colouration in the matrix (possibly Indicolite – Blue Tourmaline) but this would require testing.
The first use of the name Tourmaline dates to 1794 by Richard Kirwan. Rubellite is the name given to a pink to red coloured member of the group which is rich in Li and mostly Fe+Mg free. The group’s broader nomenclature was updated in 2011.
