A NOTE FROM NICK
Rare Blue Mine Material From 1990's
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
African Turquoise Chrysocolla
African turquoise, a unique form of chrysocolla, is exclusively mined in South Africa. This striking stone features a rich, complex blue hue interspersed with shades of brown to black, creating a captivating visual appeal. Unlike crystalline materials, African turquoise is primarily found in mass deposits, making it both exceptionally beautiful and remarkably rare, with only small pockets being mined sporadically.
In South Africa, there is a single Malagasy-owned lapidary workshop that upholds high-quality polishing standards, producing polished items that are unique to the region. This workshop is the sole source for locally polished African turquoise, and Toprock has proudly supported this business for many decades.
Due to the high costs of electricity and labor in South Africa, the polished stones often carry a higher price tag compared to their Asian counterparts. However, the quality and uniqueness of African turquoise make it a valuable addition to any collection.
