PRODUCT INFORMATION

General Description

Red Rhodonite (Zimbabwe) and rare Violet Rose Quartz (Madagascar)! A new material which is rich berry coloured, purple, with some blue hues in sections! Its actually quite spectacular! The richly intense purple and blue Quartz has a venation like patterns sometimes showing complex white quartz intrusive exposures! Its not Amethyst that's for sure, first thought was blue rose quartz. We have had people question if this is rather not a feldspar, however, Based on the variable transparency of the material, but more importantly based on the obvious cleavage evident in the material this is definitely quartz. Feldspar primarily lacks transparency and tends to have a block like or angular cleavage plain, unlike the more rounded / conchoidal cleavage of quartz. The closest colour we could think of was Sugilite, hence the name. The material may have limonite / haematoid like features or matrix exposures. Very weirdly Wonderful Stuff. Only a tiny about of material has been mined and worked, with majority of the deposit being kept for XL to XXXXXL decor items.

Rhodonite is a Manganese inosilicate, SiO₃ and member of the pyroxenoid group of minerals, crystallizing in the triclinic system. It commonly occurs as cleavable to compact masses with a rose-red colour. This is a new deposit of material being mined in Zimbabwe and polished in the region. It has a very rare and beautiful rich pink to deep red colour. The Rhodonite occurs with black Chromite and has a high weight to size ratio. The pink colour is variable from a dusky pink to semi gemmy which is exceptionally rare. This is an extremely hard stone, and every piece is polished to perfection. Price is grade dependent. Items are as shown.

General Information - The name Rhodonite comes from rhodos, the Greek word for rose, referring to the stone's distinct pink or rose red colour. Banded Rhodonite became a very popular ornamental stone during the 1930s, after the discovery of the material in Argentina – this regional material is sometimes called Inca Rose.

Price is grade dependant. Items are as shown.
