Purpurite – Rare Manganese Iron Phosphate with Stunning Chatoyancy
Purpurite is a distinctive Manganese Iron Phosphate mineral, renowned for its fascinating color range from brownish-black and purple to violet and dark red. The mineral’s color varies depending on its iron content and source, with specimens from Namibia being particularly notable.
Unlike crystalline minerals, Purpurite forms as beautiful metallic chatoyancy in veins and along fracture planes of the host rock, rather than in discrete crystals. It forms a series with the iron-bearing endmember Heterosite (FePO₄), adding to its geological significance.
Our collection features excellent, rare Purpurite specimens that are highly prized by collectors. Each piece showcases the mineral's unique metallic luster and chatoyant effect, making them exceptional additions to any collection.
