Nice selection of Zomba Smokey Quartz specimens with Feldspar on some
The Zomba Plateau in Malawi is a fascinating hotspot for mineral collectors, offering a diverse array of minerals within a matrix of Orthoclase. The standout among these is Smokey Quartz, which ranges from dark, gemmy varieties to deep Morion and pitch-black forms. Some of these Quartz specimens feature Aegirine inclusions, while rarer inclusions of Riebeckite and Rutile add extra intrigue. Recent finds have even uncovered Green Chlorite inclusions and phantoms, making these pieces even more desirable.
Aegirine from Zomba appears in both shiny black crystals and fibrous green forms, with intricate clusters and classic terminations being more common than needle-like structures. While the beauty of these specimens may not always be conventional, they are incredibly compelling due to their complexity and the unique geological processes at play. Many also exhibit self-healing characteristics, adding to their value for collectors who appreciate the natural history behind these remarkable minerals.
