Allgemeine Beschreibung
Pietersit ist ein Handelsname für ein dunkelblaugraues Brekzienaggregat, das hauptsächlich aus Falkenauge und Tigerauge besteht. Es handelt sich um eine Variante von Chalcedon (selbst eine Variante von Quarz) mit eingebetteten Fasern aus Amphibolmineralien in unterschiedlichem Alterationsgrad. Die Fasern verursachen eine blaue Farbe, wie man sie beim Tigerauge sieht. Rohmaterial einer Güteklasse wird für R2000 pro kg verkauft. Daher ist minderwertiges Material tendenziell günstiger. Pietersit steht bei den meisten Sammlern immer ganz oben auf der Wunschliste. Nur aus der Outjo-Region Namibias bekannt!
