Absolutely gorgeous bright pink Rhodocalcite with spots of black Heterogenite here and there. Exceptional coloration caused by Cobalt in the crystalline botryoidal formation. This is the largest of the specimens and certainly one of the best from the Mashamba West mine in the Kambove region Congo. This is a museum piece.

Rhodocalcite, also known as Cobalto Calcite or Cobaltocalcite, is a striking pink calcium carbonate mineral from the Calcite group, its color stemming from cobalt within its crystal structure, ranging from pale to vivid hues. It forms in cobalt-rich environments, often with minerals like dolomite, malachite, and heterogenite, appearing in hydrothermal veins, metasomatic deposits, and sedimentary manganese deposits, particularly where manganese and cobalt occur geologically. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, notably at the Mashamba West Mine within the Sicomines copper-cobalt project in Mutshatsha, Lualaba, miners extract stunningly crystallized specimens prized for their vibrant shades. Its scarcity and visual appeal make it a favorite among collectors, valued both for its beauty and its reputed uses in wellness practices.
