PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Silky Malachite, celebrated for its distinctive rosette or fan-like crystalline formations, mesmerizes with its chatoyant and sparkling appearance. Originating from Kasompe, Congo, this region is renowned for producing some of the world's finest silky Malachite specimens, making them highly coveted by collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Malachite is a green Copper Carbonate Hydroxide mineral with the chemical composition Cu₂(CO₃)(OH)₂. It has a rich history, being one of the earliest ores used to extract copper metal. Our specimens are meticulously sourced from the Congo, where extensive mining operations primarily focus on copper extraction, making specimen-grade Malachite a rare and valuable find.

Originally referred to as "Molochitus" by Pliny the Elder in 79 CE, the name "Malachite" became widely accepted by 1661. This mineral exhibits a wide range of formations, including botryoidal, silky, and stalactite-like forms. The weight-to-size ratio of Malachite specimens varies greatly depending on the material's density, with highly dense banded or flower-patterned specimens being particularly prized for cutting.

While botryoidal Malachite specimens are more commonly available, silky or fibrous varieties are much rarer and highly sought after. Stalactite specimens, the rarest and most collectible of all, command special admiration for their unique and striking beauty.
