XXX rare large Sugilite rough lapidary material
Sugilite is a relatively rare mineral, displaying hues from pink to purple, and belongs to the cyclosilicate family. Sugilite typically forms in a hexagonal system, prismatic crystals are uncommon, with the mineral often occurring in massive formations. The most famous Sugilite comes from the Wessels mine, where the highly prized gel material fetches incredibly high prices. However, specimen-grade Sugilite has become increasingly scarce over recent decades, making it highly sought after by collectors.
The newly discovered Sugilite from Zambia offers a beautiful alternative, featuring small concentrations of purple in a Ferro-Manganese matrix. Though different from the Wessels mine material, this Zambian Sugilite is still highly collectible, with polished pieces available at R1500 per kilogram. While it may not command the same prices as the Wessels material, its beauty and rarity make it a valuable addition to any collection.
